I completely forgot that today would be “Currently Day” when I started scheduling posts, so we’re just going to have ourselves a little mash-up! 🙂
Mr. Bookworm is mowing the yard and I am sitting inside listening to the hum of the A/C and the fans blowing inside our house. I am SO. HOT. ALL. THE. TIME. I’m afraid summer is going to get very uncomfortable… and expensive. 😉
I’ve also eaten my gazillionth bowl of fruit salad this week. My current concoction consists of blueberries, strawberries, canteloupe, and papaya. YUM. The are certainly worse cravings to have (and I’ve consumed my fair share of ice cream) so I’m enjoying this one!!
I’m also reading like it’s my job! I mentioned the long list of books loaded on my iPad right now. I’m also reading up on babies, growing readers, and guided math. My girlfriends and I have been taking a summer trip together for almost 8 years. Because the first part of my pregnancy was a little more challenging than we expected, I had to bow out of a Nashville trip back in April. That was not fun. I may have spent several weepy nights at home. I know there will be a trip this summer, and I’ll have to sit that one out as well. Little Man will certainly be worth it, but I miss being able to join my girls whenever I want to!
Yes, we still need nursery furniture. Holy SMOKES, that stuff can get expensive. We have several projects going on before Little Man gets here, but our new focus is the nursery furniture. Most of our weekend time has been spent driving around metro Atlanta exploring different stores and warehouses. I think we’re getting close to finding what we want, but I’d feel a little less stressed if I could check that off our list!
I can’t wait for our babymoon. I’m so ready to stick my feet in the sand and my whale tail in the pool! 🙂
I’m also hoping to sign up for a prenatal yoga class I just discovered around the corner from our house. Has anyone tried this before? I’ve never really done yoga before and I don’t want to look like a moron! HA!!
My office is being “relocated” to the playroom/bonus room in our basement. Once the nursery is put together, this will be my last big home project for the summer!

I absolutely love Guided Math & this book looks awesome. I teach first (here in Ga, by the way, so hello fellow peach-statie!), and we're obviously not departmentalized, but this sounds like a great practice to include in my own classroom. Plus, I think the 4th and 5th math teachers would love this, too. Thanks for sharing, and so glad to have found you! 🙂

5th grade is the only grade departmentalized at my school. I teach 3rd and asked my principal if she'd let us try it or at least team teach for a year and she flat out refused. She said we wouldn't be able to nurture the children as well. I want to departmentalize because with all the changes that Common Core brings, I'm having a hard time devoting the necessary attention and focus to each subject in order to teach it well. This past year, it was a daily struggle not to just speed through each lesson in an attempt to touch on everything that needed to be touched on before state assessment tests. If I only had one or two subjects to concentrate on, I know I'd be a much more effective teacher.
I guess there really are worse cravings than summer fruit 🙂 Looks likes little bookworm is going to be super healthy if you keep on eating your current mix of fruit!

We only have one pair of teachers who departmentalized this year, but will move to departmentalization in grades 2-5 next year. The advantage is being able to planning for just 2 subjects instead of all of them. The disadvantage I've found is that I don't get to know my students as well. I'm looking forward to the book study!
I would love to be part of this book club. I teach 2nd grade.
We are departmentalized in 3rd and 4th grade. The biggest disadvantage (and the reason I HATE it) is that you don't get to know your kids as well. However, you do get much more familiar with your curriculum and have more time to plan engaging lessons.
Your current fruit kick sounds much better than the three popsicles I just ate! The book club sounds like a whole lot of fun too!

I teach 2nd grade at a K-3 school that is not departmentalized due to being younger grades. However, we do have a few multi-age classes that have shared walls and do more working throughout the two grades.
My school is K-4. K and 3rd (the grade I teach) are self contained. 1st, 2nd, and 4th are all departmentalized. We felt at third grade the change back to self contained from departmentalized would be more beneficial to students during their first year of moving into reading to learn instead of learning to read as well as all of the assessing, including state testing. I feel like I know my students better and we were able to accomplish a lot more by being self contained. I can understand why 4th grade departmentalizes because they are assessed in 4 areas.
I have been doing small group math for a few years, but I would love to get better at it. Especially since I am moving back to ESE this upcoming school year.
Also, our upper grades tried departmentalization…but it didn't work. My grade level did what we called "walk and read" where our small group reading was leveled (as in, I worked with the lowest 3rd of 3rd grade. We had one teacher teach the middle third, and one with the highest third). For departmentalization to really work you have to have a team that works well together.
My school is not departmentalized….I teach K and would love to have any type of resource for math that would help me help my students better! Thanks for the chance!

I almost forgot! Our school is not departmentalized. I like having the flexibility in my schedule that is there by having my students all day.
We are not departmentalized, but we are starting guided math next year!
Our school is departmentalized with one teacher teaching reading/writing and the other teacher science/math in the monolingual English track. Dual language teachers are K/1, 2/3, & 4/5. Dual language chooses different subjects as each teacher must teach literacy. In the future, the school will probably be a multiage NGL school
Our elementary school is not departmentalized, but our Middle and High Schools are. I see advantages to both but lean toward not. At the elementary level there is so much that goes cross curricular that if I were in a mainstream classroom, I would want to have my freedom to take the students wherever I wanted. zputty@gmail.com

At my school the elementary is not departmentalized. I love having my class all day and owning their learning. We tried switching a few years back but the time constraints were a big problem and when I wanted to do something special with my class it would either have to wait or be broken up due to the switch. We team taught this year. We have six teachers on our 4th grade team. 3 of us taught Math/ Science/ Social Studies and 3 of us taught Reading/ Writing/ Language Arts. It was great but a lot of pressure for those of us who taught ELA and had 2 state tests to be responsible for while the math peeps only had one. I had a total of 44 ELA students (22 at a time) but IRIing took a long time to get through and so did analyzing and grading writing with a rubric several times a year was a bit overwhelming. 🙂
