Leadership Story Sorts + a new 7 Habits {FREEBIE}

Howdy peeps!

Conference Week is in my future. Our district releases elementary and middle school students 2 hours early for a full week, and we schedule parent conferences for the afternoons. I have two l-o-n-g days on Monday and Tuesday (conferences from 1:00 – 6:00), a few on Wednesday, and then 2 afternoons to myself on Thursday and Friday.

How does your school or district set up conferences? Do you set aside any time for yourself if you can?

The best part of next week is that my incredible teaching partner, M, comes back on Wednesday. Yahoo!! Her supply teacher has been absolutely wonderful, but there is nothing like the real thing. 🙂

When M comes back, we’re going to spend some time with our kids reviewing the 7 Habits and our rituals and routines in what we call “family group meetings.” We bring all 42 kids together so that they always hear the same thing from both of us at the same time. We also want them to understand that we are all part of the same “family” at school. I have missed this element of our teaching partnership and I can’t wait to get it going again!

One of the things I’m going to bring out as a review activity are the story sorts from my Growing Leadership Habits: 8 Story Sorts pack.

For my 3rd graders this year, I’ve read the stories in a whole group setting and we’ve discussed which heading they belong under. Our 4th and 5th grade classes have been able to let students work in partners or independently to complete the sorts. I have really loved the discussions that come to life when we complete each sort.

Every class is different and you know your students best. I would love to hear how these are working out in your classrooms if you’re using them!  

There are 4 scenarios for each habit with 2 different outcomes – a supporting example and a non-example. There are also blank cards for you or your students to write your own stories. I’m working on a couple of other versions and hopefully I’ll have those ready to test out and share with you soon!

I’ve got a set of brand-new graphic organizers for you! There are 7 different organizers – one for each habit. Students are given a scenario to respond to or they’re asked to reflect on how they can apply each habit to their own life. These are perfect for advanced 2nd graders through middle school! I’ve *almost* finished the primary version, so if these are a little too challenging for your 2nd graders there is another edition coming soon! 🙂
